Under the pressure of oversupply state, the price of magnesium ingot dropped from RMB50,000/t (USD7,352/t) at the beginning of the year to RMB21,500/t (USD3,161/t) in late 2022, and the magnesium plants struggled to maintain in the price inversion.

He used to be the General Manager of Shanghai Baosteel Hot Stamping Parts Co., Ltd., Business Director of Baosteel International Automobile Parts Operation Center, Vice Director of the Administrative Commission of Gansu Jinchang Economic and Technological Development Zone, Business Director of Automobile Parts Operation Center and General Manager of Manufacturing Management Center under Baosteel Metal.   • Cui Kai jointed Shanxi Yinguang Huasheng Magnesium Co., Ltd. in 1988 when the company was just set up and has worked at the company for 33 years, now serving as the Vice President and Director of the technology center of the company. With rich practical experience in the magnesium industry for over 30 years, he was recognized as a magnesium expert by Magnesium Branch of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association.
  • He presided over the building of the magnesium smeltery with an annual capacity of 50,000t, the wheel production line with an annual output of 300,000 units, the semi-continuous rod casting line, magnesium ingot production line, extrusion line, surface treatment micro-arc oxidation production line, etc. He owns great experience especially in magnesium production and smelting, and is acknowledged as a magnesium smelting expert by insiders. From 1999 to 2002, the first magnesium alloy extrusion line (630tpy) and the first magnesium semi-continuous casting line was completed under the leadership of him, which contributed 1/3 of the total magnesium alloy exports of China and promoted the rapid development of the magnesium alloy industry. In 2009, the launch of the third wheel forging line in China also laid a foundation for the application of magnesium alloy in the wheel market.
  • Now he is mainly studying the development of new magnesium alloy materials and deep processing follow-up technique, making great contribution to the technical breakthrough of magnesium alloy application and industry expansion. He has published more than 30 related papers, and participated in the publication of more than 20 patents and 10 national and industry standards. He won many awards in the magnesium alloy industry and won the first science and technology prize issued by Chinese Nonferrous Metals Industry in 2019.

  • Dr. Mingzhi Mao is distinguished expert at the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, Doctor of Philosophy in Automotive Engineering at University of Bolton, Master and Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at Central South University. He specialized in automobile structure safety analysis and lightweight design, and is the only expert to master the key technologies of advanced design and development of large-scale thin-walled magnesium alloys. With years of experience, he developed technical method of "CAE-led design of large magnesium alloy die casting", a state-of-the-art technology worldwide and the first of its kind in China. His team has successfully developed multiple large thin-walled magnesium alloy products, which reduce the product weight more than 50% and have begun mass production, for top auto brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Land Rover and Ford. He is now Technical Director at Wanfeng Auto Holding Group and Director of ATC at Meridian Lightweight Technologies.

    In 2014, he set up Foshan Magood Bicycle Parts Co., Ltd., a company with annual production capacity of 2 million wheels and 1 million frames, and he is now the general manager of the company. Over the years, he has put his knowledge to practical work for the application of magnesium alloy wheel. He now engages in R&D for new magnesium alloy materials and technology for deep processing of magnesium alloy, striving to make technical breakthrough and further expand the industry. He also participated in the compiling of magnesium alloy development roadmap by South China University of Technology, as well as the publication of more than 20 invention patents and utility model patents.

Shanxi Fuhengdi Metal Materials Co., Ltd., formerly known as Wenxi County Shengfu Magnesium Powder Factory, was established in November 2007 and is located in Xidu Village, Yangyu Township, Wenxi County, Shanxi Province. Fuhengdi, with independent management and import&export rights, has become a professional magnesium powder producer with large production scale and wide varieties. With an annual production capacity of 15,000t for magnesium powder products, including magnesium powder, magnesium granule, magnesium chips and passivated magnesium granule, Fuhengdi produced about 9,800t of the metal in 2021. In domestic market, Fuhengdi mainly sells the related material to steel mills such as Taiyuan Steel, Handan Steel, Tangshan Steel, Wuhan Steel, and also to many pharmaceutical companies.
